Bombers' Beaudoin Selected For ECHL All-Rookie Team

April 3, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers, members of the ECHL, announced today that forward Matt Beaudoin has been named to the 2008 ECHL All-Rookie Team.

Beaudoin leads all rookies and is tied for second overall in the ECHL with 38 goals and 16 power-play goals in 62 games. He has 31 assists. The 23-year-old is tied for sixth among rookies and 12th overall with 69 total points.

The Quebec native signed with Hershey Bears of the "AAA" American Hockey League on March 26 and has appeared in four games with the Bears. He has also played three games with the AHL's Iowa Stars and one with the Rochester Americans this season.

The ECHL All-Rookie Team for 2007-08 was determined in a vote of ECHL head coaches, who were asked to select one goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards. A rookie is defined as a player who has played in less than 25 professional games prior to the start of the current season.

"Matt seized a great opportunity to score with a lot of ice time here in Dayton," said Bombers head coach Bill McDonald. "He's got a bright future ahead and we couldn't be happier for him."

Since the ECHL began naming the All-Rookie Team in 2000-01, seven players selected have gone on to play in the NHL: Kevin Doell (2003-04), Vern Fiddler (2001-02), Simon Gamache (2001-02), Mike Glumac (2002-03), Jason Jaffray (2002-03), Joey Tenute (2004-05) and Zenon Konopka (2002-03).

This is the second consecutive season that the Bombers have had a player named to an All-ECHL team. Last year goaltender Adam Berkhoel was named to the All-ECHL First Team. Berkhoel was signed by the NHL's Detroit Red Wings this past summer.
