Charlotte FC's Brian Romero & Nimfasha Berchimas Earn U-17 U.S. Men's National Team Call Up

Charlotte, NC - U.S. Under-17 Men's Youth National Team head coach Gonzalo Segares has called 20 players to Hradec Králové, Czech Republic for the 29th Václav Ježek Cup from Sept. 1-11. The USA will face Switzerland, host Czech Republic and Ukraine in some of its final preparation matches before the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia, set for Nov. 10-Dec. 2.
Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2006 are age-eligible for the 2023 U-17 World Cup and Segares selected 16 players born in 2006, three in 2007 and one in 2008: Charlotte FC forward Nimfasha Berchimas.
Thirteen players return from the USA's successful World Cup qualifying campaign earlier this year and Segares selected players from 11 Major League Soccer clubs, led by three from the San Jose Earthquakes and two each from Charlotte FC, Colorado Rapids and LA Galaxy.

All tournament matches will be streamed on InSports TV for a small fee.
The tournament represents the U-17s' return to international action since finishing runner-up at the Concacaf U-17 Championship earlier this year. Midfielders Taha Habroune and Cruz Medina plus forward Micah Burton each netted three goals for the USA at the tournament.
Two players are making their first U-17 appearance this cycle: goalkeeper Zack Campagnolo and midfielder Matthew Evans. Midfielder Edwyn Mendoza has appeared in nine of 10 training camps since the cycle kicked off in November 2021, while Burton, Medina, defenders Tyler Hall and Oscar Verhoeven plus forward Brian Romero have been called to eight training camps.
Three players are based abroad: defender Noahkai Banks at FC Augsburg and defender Aiden Harangi at Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany as well as midfielder Pedro Soma at UE Cornella in Spain. The roster features players from eight states, led by eight from California.
