Chaput Named In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, announced today that center Chris Chaput has been named the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Dec. 17-23.

The 5-foot-10 and 190-pound Chaput had four goals, one assist and a plus-minus rating of +4 as the Stingrays went 3-0-0 to move into a tie for third place in the South Division and extend their winning streak to nine games.

The 24 year old scored a career-high four goals and tied his career best with four points in a 6-1 win against Pensacola on Dec. 19. After scoring a first-period goal, Chaput registered a natural hat trick with goals at 11:05 and 14:49 of the second and 5:13 of the third. He added an assist on a power-play goal in a 3-0 win against Pensacola on Dec. 21.

The Providence, R.I. native has 19 points (8g-11a) and 12 penalty minutes this season with South Carolina after having 56 points (24g-32a) and 50 penalty minutes with the Stingrays in 2006-07.

Chaput played for Elmira as a rookie in 2005-06 and had 66 points (26g-40a) and 65 penalty minutes in 70 games while being named a United Hockey League All-Star.

He played four seasons at Providence College where he had 96 points (33g-63a) and 125 penalty minutes in 144 games.

On behalf of Chris Chaput, a case of pucks will be donated to North Charleston area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, In Glas Co has donated more than 18,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
