Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announce that right wing Derek Nesbitt has been called up to the Rockford IceHogs of the American hockey league.
It is the first career appearance in the AHL for the 6-foot, 185-pound forward. Nesbitt was held scoreless in his first AHL game with Rockford against the Peoria Riverment on December 26th.
Before being called-up to Rockford, Nesbitt lead the Gladiators in scoring with 39 points on 11 goals and 28 assists in 26 games. Nesbitt also stands as the third leading scorer in the ECHL and his 28 assists give him second place in the league in that category.
The Edgmonville, Ontario, native is the fifth Gwinnett player to be called up to the American Hockey League this season joining forwards Mike Vigilante and Jeff Campbell as well as defenseman Jon Awe and goaltender Craig Kowalski after appearing on the Gladiators opening day roster.
The Gladiators continue their fifth anniversary season on Thursday, December 27th as they play host to the Columbia Inferno at 7:05 p.m at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Catch all the play-by-play action in Thursday's game on WDUN, News Talk 550.
