Fresno Falcons News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons suffered their first shutout loss of the season, falling to the Stockton Thunder 2-0 on Thursday in front of 5,253 fans at Stockton Arena.
Stockton scored the lone goal of the opening period to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Andy Contois picked up a loose puck in the right-wing circle, and fed Ryan MacMurchy in the high slot, who rifled a wrist shot over the glove of Jake Moreland at 17:14 for his sixth goal of the season.
The lead remained 1-0 until midway through the third period. Stephane Goulet sent a pass to the far post for Brandon Schwartz, who redirected the puck past Moreland for a power-play goal at 12:18, doubling Stockton's advantage to 2-0.
The two-goal lead was more than enough for Thunder goaltender Tim Boron, who turned aside 40 shots for his first professional shutout.
Fresno's power play continued to struggle, failing to score on seven opportunities. The Falcons are now just 1-for-31 on the power play over their last four games.
The Falcons return home on Saturday, hosting the Victoria Salmon Kings at 7:30 p.m. for Relay at the Rink, presented by ABC 30, 93.7 KISS Country, and Schoettler-Neufeld Tire. The Falcons will wear special purple jerseys which will be auctioned off following the game to benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The first 2,000 fans in attendance receive a Falcons purple beanie.
Tickets for all Falcons' home games can be purchased at the Save Mart Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (559) 485-TIXS or www.ticketmaster.com. All Falcons games air on 790 ESPN Radio, The Deuce, starting with the Port of Subs Pre-Game Show 15 minutes prior to face off.
