Asheville Tourists News Release
GREENVILLE, SC-- It has been a long time coming for Asheville Tourists right-hander Ryan Castellani. On this night, the starting pitcher made his 22nd start of the season and was still searching for his first victory. That wait is now over as Castellani tossed a career-high six innings against the Greenville Drive in Asheville's 9-2 win.
Both the Tourists and the Drive went without a run through the first two innings but Asheville broke through in the third. Ryan Stephens led off the frame with a solo Home Run. Two batters later, Max White drove in Luis Jean with an RBI groundout. Dom Nunez jumped into the act with an RBI single and Yonathan Daza also contributed with an RBI fielder's choice. The Drive made two errors in the four-run frame.
Greenville managed one in the bottom of the third but Jean responded with an RBI single in the fourth. Javier Guerra's solo Home Run off Castellani in the bottom of the fourth made it a 5-2 game but the Drive would never come any closer. Castellani retired all eight batters he faced following the Guerra long ball.
Asheville plated one in the fifth on a Daza RBI single and capped off the evening with a three-run ninth. The Tourists stole four bases in the final frame to erase any thought of a comeback from the Drive.
The Tourists encountered a crucial spot in the bottom of the seventh. Yoely Bello came in to replace Castellani and promptly loaded the bases with no outs. A short fly-out, a strikeout, and a groundout later, sent Bello and the Tourists back to the dugout with no runs allowed.
James Lomangino tossed the final two innings without allowing a run. Castellani finished with six innings pitched, four hits allowed, two runs, and six strikeouts. Nunez and Daza each accumulated three hits.
The same two teams are back in action on Wednesday evening with the first pitch set for 7:05pm.
