Crawdads Beat Kannapolis on Intimidator Errors

HICKORY, N.C. (August 11, 2015) - The Crawdads took advantage of two Intimidators errors, including a dropped fly ball in the bottom of the eighth that led to the go-ahead run in a 6-5 Intimidators loss on Tuesday at L.P. Frans Stadium. Kannapolis (22-22 Second Half, 57-56) rallied for three runs to tie the game in the top of the eighth but dropped its fourth straight contest.

With the game tied 5-5, Luke Tendler opened the bottom of the eighth with a fly ball to left field that glanced off Michael Suiter's glove, allowing Tendler to reach second base. Chuck Moorman cashed him in with a sac-fly later in the inning for a 6-5 lead.

Zack Erwin (0-1), the White Sox fourth round pick in the June 2015 First-Year Player Draft, took the hard-luck loss, giving up an unearned run on one hit over 3.0 innings of relief. Hickory's Adam Dian (2-0) earned the win with 1 and 1/3 scoreless innings.

Trailing 5-2, Kannapolis rallied to tie the game in the top of the eighth. With one out, Suiter followed an Ethan Gross base hit with an infield single to extend his career-best hitting streak to 20 games. Mason Robbins singled to load the bases, and Louie Lechich lifted a sac-fly to center field to bring in Gross. Alexander Simon singled to cash Suiter, and Robbins scored on a Hickory error to tie the game, 5-5.

In the top of the second, Brett Austin doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third base on a Toby Thomas single. Gross added a two-out base hit to cash Austin for a 1-0 lead.

With the game tied 1-1, the Crawdads capitalized on an Intimidators error that extended the bottom of the third inning. Jose Cardona reached on a Ryan Leoanrds throwing error, and with two outs, Edwin Garcia singled up with the middle to score Cardona for a 2-1 lead. Jose Trevino followed with an RBI-double, while Tendler and Eduardo Pinto each added run-scoring singles to build a 5-1 advantage.

Thomas cut into the Crawdads' lead with a solo home run (2) in the top of the fourth innings.

Hickory starter Nick Gardewine worked 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Kannapolis starter Yelmison Peralta worked 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (one earned) on seven hits with a walk and no strikeouts. David Trexler retired seven of eight batters he faced over 2 and 1/3 scoreless, hitless relief innings., striking out one and walking one.

The Intimidators continue this three-game on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. with RHP Spencer Adams (8-5, 3.48 ERA) starting for Kannapolis against Hickory's LHP Yohander Mendez (3-1, 1.53 ERA). The Intimidators return to Kannapolis on Friday, August 14, for a three-game series against the Hagerstown Suns.
