
RiverDogs Launch Past Legends 9-0

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston RiverDogs earned their first victory of the homestand, as the offense exploded for nine runs on 15 hits and the pitching staff struck out 16, in the 9-0 shutout of the Lexington Legends, Tuesday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The win snapped the RiverDogs four-game losing streak.
Vince Conde and Bo Thompson hit solo home runs to lead off the second and third innings, respectively. Isaias Tejeda followed with a two-run homer in the fourth, the third RiverDogs blast of the night, which brought the 3,097 fans in attendance to their feet once again.
Following Thompson's third-inning home run, which made the score 2-0, Tejeda singled and Austin Aune doubled. Conde hit a sacrifice fly, Angel Aguilar followed with an RBI single, and Alexander Palma brought home the fourth run of the frame with an RBI single two batters later.
The RiverDogs increased their lead to 9-0 in the sixth. Conde stepped in with the bases loaded and worked a walk, which scored Billy Fleming. Aguilar was next and drove in his second run of the game with an RBI single to left.
Joey Maher (4-4) climbed the hill for Charleston, pitched six scoreless innings, struck out a career-high 11 batters, and earned his third straight victory. Philip Walby pitched a perfect seventh and Conner Kendrick tallied the final two frames in scoreless fashion, preserving the shutout.
Scott Blewett (2-5) lost his fifth game with the Legends after starting the season 2-0. He gave up the first five RiverDogs runs on nine hits and only lasted three innings.
Tuesday night was the second time all season, and the second time in August, that the RiverDogs hit three home runs in a game They had hit 9 home runs in 55 games at The Joe prior to Tuesday's game. It was also Charleston's first shutout victory since July 9 when they spun a 1-0 shutout against Kannapolis.

BALLPARK FUN: It was Third Wheel Date Night at The Joe, as many fans enjoyed dates with friends tagging along as well. Pony hops and ribbon dancing brought a usual jolt of excitement to the crowd, and fans were shocked when a shark mascot came running out on the field during the mascot race. Tennis Night at The Joe was entertaining as well, as the ceremonial first pitch was served to the plate by a racquet and several members of the crowd dressed in tennis attire for the occasion. TWO outstanding catches were made on foul balls. One in section 203 and another barehanded play in section 205.
COMING UP: The RiverDogs continue their three-game series against Lexington Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Charleston will send LHP Justin Kamplain (3-12, 4.94 ERA) to the mound against LHP Foster Griffin (0-5, 6.55 ERA) for the Legends.
