Hickory, NC - Hickory Crawdads RHP Pedro Payano has been named the South Atlantic League's Pitcher of the Week for August 3rd -August 9th, becoming the fifth 'Dad to win an SAL weekly award this season.

Payano, 20, made his Crawdads debut on August 3rd while also appearing in relief on the 9th, with the right-hander going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA over 10 innings pitched. The Dominican Republic native allowed only six hits and three walks over the span while striking out 8.

Signed by the Texas Rangers as an international free agent in 2011, Payano began the year with three starts in the Dominican Summer League where he did not allow an earned run over 15.2 IP with 24 strikeouts, three walks, and a .164 average against. The 6'2" hurler then made 8 appearances in the Arizona League, going 6-0 with a 1.55 ERA (7 ER/40.2 IP), a 46/9 K/BB ratio, and a .226 BAA.

Payano joins INF Juremi Profar (7/27 - 8/2), RHP Ariel Jurado (5/25 - 5/31), OF Luke Tender (4/9 - 4/19) and INF Tripp Martin (4/20 - 4/26) as Crawdads to win an SAL weekly award in 2015.
