Power Sweeps Delmarva

(Charleston, W.V. - August 11, 2015) - For the second straight night the Power used a come-from-behind victory to down the Delmarva Shorebirds. The Power won 10-6 thanks to a four-run sixth inning and will try to sweep the Shorebirds on Wednesday afternoon.

Delmarva struck for the game's first run on an RBI double from Cameron Kneeland, but the Power responded in the bottom of the second inning. Jordan Luplow hit a triple to right and Connor Joe followed with an infield single. With runners on the corners, Michael Suchy lined a two-run double to give West Virginia its first lead of the game.

Leading 2-1, the Power extended their lead with a two-run second. Luplow laced an RBI single to left to score Taylor Gushue and Elvis Escobar scored later in the inning as part of a double steal.

With a 4-1 lead, the Power relinquished the lead after the Shorebirds tallied three in the fifth. Jomar Reyes, Yermin Mercedes, and Ademar Rifaela each had doubles as part of the four-hit inning.

The Power reclaimed the lead on an RBI fielder's choice from Kevin Newman in the in the sixth but Shorebirds again took advantage of the Power in the next frame. Trailing 5-4, Kneeland clubbed a two-run home run to left to give the 'Birds a 6-5 lead.

The four-run seventh inning was the final lead the Power took. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Tyler Filliben singled up the middle to score Joe and tied the game at six. Chase Simpson followed the single with a sacrifice fly to deep center field which scored Suchy. After a pitching change, Taylor Gushue singled to right to score Jerrick Suiter. Newman drove in the final run of the inning with a single to left which plated Filliben.

With the Power leading 9-6, Michael Suchy drove in the final run of the game for the Power with a solo home run of the eighth. The long ball was his second in as many games.

Julio Vivas (2-1) received the win despite a blown save. Power starter Alex McRae went six innings and gave up four runs on a season-high ten hits. Nigel Nootbar (2-2) took the loss. Sam Street worked two scoreless innings to earn his sixth save of the season.

Michael Suchy led all Power hitters with three RBIs and also scored two runs. Connor Joe went 3-for-5 with a couple runs scored while Kevin Newman had two RBIs in the victory.

West Virginia (31-14, 68-46) continues the series against Delmarva (22-23, 55-58) on Wednesday afternoon. Colten Brewer (3-9, 5.16) takes the hill for the Power and he will be opposed by Josh Walker (7-2, 3.29). First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. while pregame on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 FM and 1490, the Power website, and the TuneIn Radio App is slated for 11:45 a.m.
