Tulsa Oilers News Release

MOLINE, IL - After giving up 12 goals over their last two games, the Tulsa Oilers closed out the season-long, eight-game road trip with a stifling defensive performance in a 2-0 victory over the Quad City Mallards. Rookie goaltender Kevin Carr fought off 31 shots to record his third shutout of the season as the Oilers improved to 3-2-1 in the season series against the Mallards. Tulsa snapped a brief two-game skid and finished its three-week trek through the Central Division with a 6-2-0 record.

The Oilers peppered the Quad City net throughout the first period and finally solved second-year goaltender Parker Milner with less than a minute remaining in the opening frame. Defenseman Nathan Lutz created a turnover in his own zone and zipped the puck to the right wing for T.J. Caig to start a 3-on-2 rush into Mallards' territory. As Tommy Mele flashed in front of Milner, Caig fired a wrist shot that whizzed past Milner's blocker to give Tulsa a 1-0 lead. Caig scored for the second night in a row and netted his 19th goal of the season to provide his squad with an advantage heading into the first intermission.

Near the midway point of the second period, Tulsa winger Adam Pleskach intercepted a pass from Quad City defenseman Jannick Christensen and slid the puck to Jeff Jubinville who was lurking in front of the Mallards' net. The rookie center snapped a shot over the glove of Milner for his 22nd tally of the season and a 2-0 Oilers' lead. Jubinville, who ranks third in the ECHL rookie scoring race, extended his point streak to six games.

Carr made 12 saves over the final 20 minutes to preserve the shutout and ran his record to 3-1-1 against the Mallards this season. The Oilers had a allowed a power play goal in nine of their last 11 outings but posted a perfect 4-for-4 mark on the penalty kill on Wednesday night.

The Oilers will enjoy a lengthy, eight-day lay off before finally returning home to the BOK Center on Friday, March 13th at 7:35 p.m. to take on the Wichita Thunder.
