
Captain Tim Conboy Back In Albany After NHL Stint

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that captain Tim Conboy has been reassigned to Albany by the Carolina Hurricanes, their National Hockey League Affiliate. The Hurricanes assigned Conboy to the River Rats to clear room for defenseman Frantisek Kaberle, who was activated from injured reserve today.
Conboy, 26, returns to the River Rats after his first call up of the season to Carolina. In five games for the Hurricanes he had one assist, two penalty minutes and a +1 plus/minus rating. In 19 games for Albany this season the River Rats' captain has three assists and ranks second on the team with 61 penalty minutes. Conboy saw his first NHL action in 2007-08, earning five assists and totaling 60 penalty minutes in 19 games with the Hurricanes while splitting time as a forward and a defenseman. The Farmington, Minnesota, native (6'2", 210 lbs) has scored 15 goals, earned 37 assists (52 points) and amassed 673 penalty minutes in 285 AHL regular-season games with Cleveland and Albany since turning professional in 2003-04 after two seasons at St. Cloud State University. The San Jose Sharks originally drafted Conboy in the seventh round, 217th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, and he signed with Carolina as a free agent on July 21, 2006.
Kaberle, 35, has earned three assists and averaged 17:31 of ice time in seven games played this season. The Kladno, Czech Republic, native has missed the Hurricanes' last four games, and a combined 24 games this season, with a leg injury. Kaberle (6'0", 190 lbs.) has scored 28 goals and earned 160 assists (188 points) in 500 NHL regular-season games with Los Angeles, Atlanta and Carolina since the Kings drafted him in the third round, 76th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He is in his fourth season with the Hurricanes after signing with Carolina as a free agent in July 2004.
Conboy, is expected to join up with the team in Virginia as Albany begins a three-game road trip this week at 7:15 pm on Wednesday, December 17th against the Norfolk Admirals at the Norfolk Scope. The River Rats' next home game is scheduled for Saturday, December 27th at 5:00 pm against the Rochester Americans at the Times Union Center.
