Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates are once again taking part in the Make-A-Wish Foundation Stories of Light campaign this holiday season. Fans can make donations to help the team raise $6,000 to light up a story of the Time and Temperature building in downtown Portland. The campaign ends this Saturday, December 20th.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine instituted the Stories of Light campaign in 2004 to generate additional funding and visibility for their cause. The campaign has raised more than $280,000 for the Maine chapter in its first four years, which equals the average cost to fund the wishes of over 50 Maine children.

During the campaign, the Time and Temperature building is utilized as a visual thermometer for the community. Each time enough money is raised to grant a wish (the average cost of a wish is $6,000), the Make-A-Wish logo will be illuminated on a different floor of the building. The goal of the campaign is to raise enough money to light all 14 floors of the building and fund the wishes of 14 Maine children with life-threatening illnesses.

To donate to this very worthwhile effort, please visit the Friends of the Portland Pirates donation page. With their fans generosity, the Pirates can help the Make-A-Wish Foundation Share The Power Of A Wish® with seriously ill children all over Maine.

The Stories of Light name not only signifies the lighting of the building, but also the stories of Make-A-Wish children who inspire and light up the lives of everyone who hears them. For inspirational stories of local Make-A-Wish children, tune in weekdays to 107.5 Frank FM and News 8 WMTW.

The Make-A-Wish connection extends to the Pirates NHL affiliate Buffalo Sabres. Make-A-Wish of Western New York has received grants from the Buffalo Sabres Foundation and the Sabres have helped to fulfill the wishes of fans in their community. Thank you to all who support the 2008 Stories of Light campaign.
