MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, are proud to announce that defenseman Andrew Campbell has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Manchester community during the 2011-12 season.

Campbell, in his fourth year with the Monarchs, has become not only a fan favorite during his stint in Manchester but one of the leaders both on and off the ice for the Monarchs. Always one of the first members of the team to volunteer his services for the greater good of the community, Campbell takes pride in his community endeavors, always putting on a smile and willing to go the extra mile for those in need. He enjoys talking about the Monarchs, hockey in general and bringing fans into his world as a professional athlete.

Kimberly Mueller, the Monarchs Vice President of Public Affairs, describes Campbell as the "textbook role model for our organization. His ability and desire to speak with children of all ages about reading or physical fitness through the many Monarchs Care Foundation programs is remarkable. He is able to effectively communicate the importance of reading, eating healthy and staying drug free - all values which Campbell speaks genuinely and candidly about to children," said Mueller.

In addition to the Monarchs Winning With Wellness/Get Moving Manchester program, Campbell has also participated in the Monarchs annual Kids Club Party and Ticket Package Holder Meet & Greets, the Read Across America program, youth hockey practices, sponsorship appearances and the Monarchs Care Foundation's At Your Service Dinner. He also assisted kids from Make-A-Wish Foundation put their handprints in the ice to create the redline at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

On his own time, Campbell volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club of Manchester. Every Tuesday afternoon, from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m., Campbell helps the fourth and fifth grade kids with their homework and then plays games such as pool and foosball with them. The defenseman also organized an afternoon of dodgeball with the kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Manchester and several of his teammates.

Campbell headlined a trip to Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD), making a stop along the way to visit David's House, a place where families of children getting treatment at CHaD can relax and have a place to stay while visiting their child. Campbell volunteered to make additional trips up to Lebanon, New Hampshire during the season to visit the sick children.

"Campbell is always one of the first players to volunteer his services, and it does not go unnoticed from top-to-bottom in the organization," said Mueller. "His ability to communicate effectively with kids makes them feel comfortable, allowing him to convey important messages with ease. His enthusiasm and energy is contagious and students are able to take that positive influence into their daily lives. Campbell is an inspiration and a role model for children throughout Manchester."

The Monarchs travel to play the Connecticut Whale at the XLCenter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6. Catch all the play-by-play action of Monarchs hockey with Ken Cail on the Monarchs Radio Network WGIR 610 AM, WGIR.com and at www.manchestermonarchs.com, presented by Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.
