Bracken Kearns Named Rampage's 2011-12 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year

SAN ANTONIO (April 2, 2012) - The San Antonio Rampage are proud to announce that Bracken Kearns has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the San Antonio community during the 2011-12 season.

In his second season with the Rampage, Kearns has committed a substantial amount of his off-ice time to community events throughout his career, and this season was no exception. Always the first to lend a helping hand, Kearns symbolizes the kind of character that the Rampage expect from the players who don their sweater.

One of Kearns' most notable commitments this season was his participation in the Rampage's Face-Off Against Kids Cancer Program, in which San Antonio players are paired with children from the Centers for Oncology and Blood Disorders at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital who are currently in either early stages of treatment for pediatric cancer or in remission. In addition, Kearns worked closely with San Antonio's Animal Defense League, whose aim is to prevent cruelty to animals.

Kearns also spent time this season contributing in many other areas of community service. This past November, he met with children from Peterson Middle School's Soulmates program to paint ceramic bowls in an effort to increase the awareness of the plight of hunger in the Kerrville community. In December, Kearns served meals to the homeless at St. Vinny's Bistro at Haven for Hope in San Antonio, and in January, he skated with breast cancer survivors at the AT&T Center in advance of the Rampage's Pink in the Rink game.

Kearns is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2011-12 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League in the coming weeks.
