Las Vegas Wranglers News Release

Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers announced today the Calgary Flames of the NHL have assigned goaltender Brent Krahn and defenseman Deryk Engelland to the Wranglers and the Lowell Lock Monsters of the AHL have assigned right wing Garrett Bembridge. The Lowell Lock Monsters are the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames. To make room, the Wranglers released (G) Brett Leone, (D) David Noble, and (LW) Jeff Coulter. The Wranglers have 20 players on their roster following the moves.

"Anytime you get a guy directly from the NHL it's exciting for the team and organization," said Wranglers' General Manager/Head Coach Glen Gulutzan. "We hope that he will be back in the NHL soon. He's a good, big goaltender."

Brent Krahn dressed as the back-up goaltender in Calgary's 1-0 win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers last night. Krahn appeared in three pre-season games with the Flames allowing only one goal while posting a 0-0-1 record and a 0.80 GAA. In 122 WHL career games Krahn posted a 79-32-7 record with nine shut-outs and a 2.86 GAA. The Flames selected Krahn in the first round, ninth overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Krahn stands in at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds.

"Engelland is a young, tough defenseman," said Gulutzan. "He needs ice time to develop more as a player. He's a fast learner and we expect him to bring toughness to our line-up."

Engelland joined the Wranglers for the two preseason games. The rugged defenseman tallied 16 penalty minutes in the two contests with zero points. The 6-foot-2 rookie played the last five seasons for the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors. In 243 games for the Warriors, Engelland racked up 520 penalty minutes. The Chetwynd, BC native tallied 14 goals and 34 assists during his span in Moose Jaw..

"Bembridge is a fast and very skilled winger who will help us out up front" said Gulutzan. " We hope that he can play well enough to get called back up to a higher level."

Bembridge is entering his fourth season of professional hockey, and comes to the Wranglers on assignment from the Lowell Lock Monsters. The 22 year-old has played in 137 games in his professional career, scoring 19 goals and notching 22 assists for a total of 41 points. The 6-foot, 180-pound right winger spent two full seasons with the Saint John Flames of the AHL, and seven games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL.

The Wranglers open their inaugural season on the road October 17 in Boise, ID with three straight games against the Idaho Steelheads. Las Vegas will return home for Opening Night at the Orleans Arena on Tuesday, October 21 against Bakersfield.
