Generals Sign Hard-Shooting Ftorek

October 15, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release

Greensboro, NC – The Greensboro Generals have announced the return of forward Sam Ftorek, one of the hardest shooters in the ECHL. Head Coach/General Manager Rick Adduono grabbed Ftorek from the American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers following his release in training camp.

"It is bittersweet for me," said Ftorek. "On the one hand I missed out on the opportunity to play one step away from the NHL. However I am returning to Greensboro with the opportunity to be surrounded by players that I am accustomed to, a team with a great fan base, and an impact head coach in Rick Adduono."

In Ftorek, the Generals mark the return of their leading goal scorer, with 33 goals last season. Appearing in all 72 regular season games last season, Ftorek also was responsible for 28 assists, while amassing 61 points. Ftorek was responsible for five game-winning goals during the season, with his most important occurring on March 18th against the Florida Everblades.

A 4-2 victory in Florida helped spark the Generals playoff push, as Greensboro would win its next eight consecutive games and finish just one point behind the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies for the Northeast Division crown. Appearing in the ECHL playoffs for the fourth consecutive season in his career, and first with the Generals, Ftorek would be responsible for two goals, four assists, and six points.

The Generals home opener is against the South Carolina Stingrays on October 17th at 7:30 PM. Next up is the newly formed Texas Wildcatters who visit the Greensboro Coliseum for the first time on October 23rd at 7:30 PM.

Individual tickets for all Greensboro Generals 2003-04 home games are on sale now. Tickets may be purchased at the Coliseum advance box office, all participating Triad area Lowes Foods locations, on-line at www.tickets.com and by calling toll free (888) 397-3100.
