West Valley City, UT - Two goals by former Steelhead Scott Burt, including a shorthanded marker in the third period, helped forced overtime in an eventual 4-3 shootout win for the Grizzlies on Saturday night, as they came from behind for the second consecutive contest to upend the Steelheads.

A crowd of 3,343 watched from the E-Center as the Steelheads (1-0-3) let a two-goal advantage slip away allowing the Grizzlies (2-3-0) to gain four points in an important early season West Division match-up. The Steelheads, who got a solid professional debut by goaltender Kellen Briggs (40 saves), did earn two points over the weekend.

For the second time this season, the Steelheads got the game's first goal, as Aaron Gagnon got to Taggart Desmet's rebound and slipped the puck through the legs of Grizzlies' goaltender Mike Mole (34 saves) for a 1-0 lead at the 9:32 mark of the first period. Defenseman Blake Forsyth got the second assist, as Gagnon scored for the third straight tilt.

The lead was short-lived however, as Burt potted his third goal in the last two nights, tipping home a shot from the high slot by defenseman Martin Frechette. Grizzlies' captain Travis Rycroft picked up the second helper.

The Steelheads took a 2-1 lead on a power play goal at 6:43 of the second off the stick of Marty Flichel. After some good puck movement, Flichel took a Lance Galbraith offering and blasted a one-timer inside the left post. Former Grizzly Matt Craig grabbed the second assist, as the Steelheads' top forward trio each picked up their first point of the season on the play.

At the second intermission, the Grizzlies led in shots 34-24, but the Steelheads held a 2-1 lead thanks in large part to the play of Briggs, who made 18 first period stops and 15 more saves in the second stanza.

Flichel buried another man advantage marker just 37 seconds into the third to make the score 3-1, with Greg Rallo and Craig registering the helpers.

However, the Steelheads two-goal lead in the third period would not hold up. At 2:42, Grizzlies' defenseman James Sanford blistered a point shot over the glove of Briggs to cut the Steelheads lead to 3-2. That goal broke a season-long, zero-for-30 power play drought for the Grizzlies with Ryan Kinasewich and Scott Ford getting the assists.

Burt's second of the night, a backhander at 13:16 evened the score at three and sent the game to an eventual scoreless overtime. In the shootout, only Craig tallied for the visitors, while the Grizzlies got goals from Sanford, Jason Pitton and Kinasewich.

For the night, the shots favored the Grizzlies 44-37. For the second straight night, the Steelheads went two-for-five on the man advantage, while the home team ended one-for-three.

The Steelheads finish their home-and-home series with the Grizzlies, returning home on Wednesday, October 41. The puck drops from Qwest Arena at 7:10 p.m. MST. Fans are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes, as prizes will be given out for the spookiest, sportiest and sexiest costumes. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
