Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (2-2-0= 4) of the ECHL were shut down and shutout by the Pensacola Ice Pilots and goaltender Mike Brodeur (1-1-0; 28/28) at the Pensacola Civic Center Friday night, 2-0. In a game that was played tight to the vest by both teams, Pensacola bagged a pair of power play goals (2-5), and Reading was unable to convert with the man advantage (0-5) and for the most part had trouble creating the sustained offensive attack necessary to pull off a comeback. Royals' goaltender, Jon Quick (1-2-0; 24/26) was the hard luck loser, as he made several key stops to keep the team's hopes alive.

Pensacola struck at the 14:01 mark of the first period while playing with the man advantage. J.C. Stewart took a hard, low shot from the point that Quick was able to fight off. The rebound fell loose in the crease and before the Royals could clear or cover, Matheiu Roy and his Pensacola teammates pressed hard and forced the puck in. After a scoreless second period-during which the Royals were unable to capitalize on a late period five-on-three for 1:30-the Ice Pilots iced the game with a third period power play goal with 8:59 remaining in the game. Again, Sawyer fired the puck from the high slot. This time, however, the puck appeared to strike someone or some thing on the way in and change directions to slip between the legs of Quick. The Royals tried to press late, but Pensacola played hard-nosed, smart, simple and solid defense to thwart every attempt the Royals put up.

The Royals return to action on Saturday night, October 27-in the home opener for the Mississippi Sea Wolves The game night radio broadcast on ESPN Radio 1240 am and through the internet (www.royalshockey.com) will kick off at 7:35 pm eastern time with the pre-game warm up show. Streaming video is available on a pay-per-view basis through the B2 Networks. The Royals' home opener is on Saturday, November 3, 2007, against the Cincinnati Cyclones.
