Brujan, Bulls Beat 'Birds with 4-3 Walk-Off Win

Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM - Bulls starting pitcher Brent Honeywell Jr. tossed five solid frames, while second baseman Vidal Brujan recorded three hits, including a tenth-inning game-winning double in Durham's series-clinching walk-off 4-3 victory over the Memphis Redbirds on Sunday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
After Memphis plated a tally in the top of the tenth, Bulls RF Miles Mastrobuoni bashed a game-tying single to center, sending 3B Kevin Padlo plateward. The scene would be set for Brujan, who ripped a 1-0 pitch to the right field corner to bring Mastrobuoni in from first to cue the celebration and give Durham another series victory. Brujan's three-hit effort was his third straight multi-hit game, giving Brujan eight hits over his last 14 at-bats.
SS Taylor Walls put the Bulls ahead 1-0 via his run-scoring base hit to right in the opening frame before the Redbirds evened the contest with a single tally in the fourth. Memphis would plate the go-ahead run in the sixth before Brujan dropped an RBI single to right to force the extra inning.
Honeywell (5.0 IP, 4 H, R, ER, BB, 2 K) yielded a lone earned run on four hits over five frames in his longest outing of the season, though he did not factor in the decision. Bulls relievers Calvin Faucher (1.0 IP, H, 2 K), Brian Moran (1.0 IP, K) combined for two shutout innings, while Phoenix Sanders (2.0 IP, H, R, 0 ER) relinquished the lone unearned run over the final two frames to earn his fourth win. Memphis reliever Junior Fernandez (1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 K) suffered the defeat after starter Connor Thomas (6.0 IP, 4 H, R, ER, 0 BB, 7 K) tossed a quality outing.
Following a league-wide off day on Monday, Durham begins a six-game road series versus the Gwinnett Stripers on Tuesday, August 10. First pitch of the series opener is slated for 7:05pm. Starting pitchers for both teams have not yet been announced.
The Bulls return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, August 17 to square off with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in the latest iteration of the Surf & Turf Series. First pitch of the series opener is set for 6:35pm. Tickets for that game, as well as all remaining Bulls home games are available and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com.
