Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - The Pacific Coast League announced today that Tacoma Rainiers manager Daren Brown has been selected to serve in the same role on the PCL field staff for the 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game.
This year's event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 14 at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA, home of the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs. The 2010 PCL squad will face off against All-Star selections from the International League beginning at 7:00 p.m. (EDT). The game can be heard locally on South Sound Sports 850 AM and will be televised nationally on MLB Network.
Brown's selection is the first by a Rainiers manager since Dan Rohn, currently managing with Las Vegas, was chosen to head the PCL field staff during the 2002 Triple-A All-Star Game in Oklahoma City.
A native of Holdenville, OK, Brown is currently in his fourth season managing Tacoma and his 10th coaching in the Mariners organization. He previously served as manager with Double-A San Antonio and guided Class-A affiliates San Bernardino, Wisconsin and Inland Empire to playoff appearances from 2001 to 2004.
Brown led a Rainiers squad that overcame a 7.5-game deficit to clinch the 2009 PCL Pacific North Division crown and the team's first playoff berth since 2005.
Joining Brown on the PCL field staff is Salt Lake's pitching coach Erik Bennett and Memphis' batting coach Mark Budaska, along with New Orleans Zephyrs trainer Steve Miller.
