Nashville Sounds Launch "Play Ball!" Project To Help Flood-Damaged Youth Baseball Organizations
June 17, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Nashville Sounds News Release
The Nashville Sounds launched the "Play Ball!" Project today to help Middle Tennessee youth baseball organizations recover from major flood damage.
Five of the Nashville Sounds' regular season home games this year will be dedicated to five area youth baseball organizations that were hardest hit by the flood. The Sounds are donating a total of 12,000 tickets to the games, in which 100% of the proceeds - as much as $120,000 - will go to those youth organizations that need flood recovery assistance.
The Nashville Sounds and the "Play Ball!" Project sponsors have already contributed more than $70,000 in cash and equipment to help these teams get back on their feet.
Youth baseball fields in Nashville's Shelby Park, Mount Juliet, Hendersonville, Ashland City, and Bellevue were severely damaged in the flood and have been struggling to recover. Many fields are still closed. Each of these communities will be represented at a special Nashville Sounds home game where ticket sales will help raise money for their organizations. The Project will assist up to 15,000 ballplayers and 40 baseball, softball, and soccer fields in the area.
"The flood has taken a serious toll on youth baseball in Middle Tennessee," said Brad Tammen, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Sounds. "Some of these facilities were just wiped out. The Nashville Sounds and others in this community want to help get these kids back out on the field."
Partners in the Nashville Sounds "Play Ball!" Project include: Khesed Foundation, Minor League Baseball, Louisville Slugger, Centerplate, The Cold Heading Foundation, The Milwaukee Brewers, Wilson Sporting Goods, NewsChannel5 Network, and 104.5 The Zone.
Games will be held on July 18th for Mount Juliet at 6:35 p.m., July 19th for Hendersonville at 7:05 p.m., July 20th for Shelby Park at 7:05 p.m., July 27th for Bellevue at 7:05 p.m., and August 1st for Ashland City at 6:35 p.m.
