RH Geoff Geary (3-5, 5.56) vs. RH Rick VandenHurk (4-3, 4.86)
TONIGHT: The RedHawks wrap up an 8-game homestand with the fourth and final game of a series with the New Orleans Zephyrs (Florida Marlins). OKC leads the series 3-0 after sweeping yesterday's doubleheader 4-1 and 7-0. The RedHawks, 5-2 on the homestand, are a season-high 9 games over .500 while sitting 2.5 games ahead of Albuquerque in the American South Division. New Orleans is third, 6.5 back of OKC in the division. Righthander Geoff Geary gets the start for the RedHawks, his third straight spot start. Geary has one relief appearance this season against New Orleans, April 29 (no decision) when allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 1.1 innings. Rick VandenHurk, the losing pitcher April 29 in OKC (3 IP, 9 H, 7 ER), starts for the Zephyrs.
TWIN COMPLETE GAMES: Doug Mathis and Michael Ballard pitched OKC's first complete games of the season yesterday in the doubleheader sweep of New Orleans. Both were 7-inning games. Mathis allowed 1 run on 9 hits in a 4-1 win, while Ballard tossed a 4-hit shutout in the nightcap in a 7-0 victory.
SWEEP NOTES: Yesterday's twin bill sweep was the RedHawks' first since May 30, 2008 at Omaha. It was OKC's first home doubleheader sweep since April 15, 2007, which featured shutouts in both games. The RedHawks took the first game 2-0 and the second 1-0 on David Matranga's walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth inning. A win tonight would give the RedHawks their first series sweep of the season. On two occasions they've been a win away from sweeping Memphis, only to lose the finale.
MORELAND: Mitch Moreland has driven in at least 1 run in 6 of 7 games this homestand and has 14 RBIs during the stand. On Tuesday, he recorded the RedHawks' fifth 4-RBI game of the season. In 11 games against the Zephyrs, Moreland is 18-for-41 (.439) with 2 homers, 7 doubles and 11 RBIs. Moreland has moved into a tie with Chris Davis for the team RBI lead with 39.
SALTY VS. NEW ORLEANS: Jarrod Saltalamacchia has homered in consecutive games played. He's the fourth RedHawk to do that this season, joining Chris Davis (May 29-30 at New Orleans), Wes Bankston (May 8-9 at Iowa) and Brandon Boggs (April 30-May 1 vs. New Orleans). Saltalamacchia is second on the team with 8 homers, with 5 against New Orleans, including each of his last 4. In 7 games against the Zephyrs this season, Saltalamacchia is batting .429 (12-for-28) with 5 homers and 10 of his 20 RBIs.
LEADERS: Brandon Boggs is fourth in the league in walks with 39. He's seventh in on-base percentage at .409 and has reached base in 21 straight games. Esteban German is fifth in walks with 37, second in stolen bases (24) and third in runs (47). OKC is second in the PCL in walks as a team with 264, trailing only Reno's 265.
CHIPPING IN: Chris Davis has hit safely in 14 of 15 games this month and is batting .453 (24-for-53) with 2 homers and 11 RBIs in June. He's second in the league in batting average this month behind Fresno's Tyler Graham (.488). For the season, Davis is fifth in the PCL in hitting at .341.
PITCHING NO. 1: OKC leads the PCL in team ERA at 3.42. Iowa is second at 3.54. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs in the league (32), 13 fewer than the closest team, Fresno. OKC has allowed the fewest runs (255) and earned runs (220), and is third in strikeouts (489) behind Albuquerque (491) and league-leader Sacramento (503).
BIG FLIES: The RedHawks have homered in 4 straight games and are 26-11 when hitting at least 1 homer in a contest. They are 11-17 when homerless. OKC has 58 homers, fifth in the PCL. They have hit 31 home runs at The Brick, surpassing their 2009 total (29) for the entire season. Fourteen homers this season have tied the score or given OKC the lead in the fifth inning or later. The 2009 RedHawks had 7 such homers all of last season. They had the fewest home runs (77) in all of Triple-A.
