Iowa Cubs News Release
The Round Rock Express posted four first-inning runs and never looked back en route to a 6-5 win over the Iowa Cubs Thursday night at Principal Park.
Jason Bourgeois singled to start off the game. Next batter, Oswaldo Navarro, was hit by a pitch and Bourgeois was driven home on Brian Bogusevic's double off Iowa starter Jay Jackson. Matt Kata was the second batter hit by a pitch in the inning. Drew Meyer then double home Navarro and Bogusevic for the 4-0 lead.
In the second inning, Iowa's Welington Castillo hit a sacrifice fly to get Iowa on the board. However, in the third inning the Express extended their lead to 6-1. Bogusevic and Kata hit back-to-back singles to lead off. Bogisevic scored on Andrew Locke's double and Kata scored on Meyer's sacrifice fly to left.
Iowa retaliated with a two-run fourth inning to cut the lead in half, 6-3. With two outs, Castillo hit a two-run homer, scoring Bryan LaHair. Castillo was 2-for-3 with three RBI. LaHair and pitcher Jackson also collected two hits.
Jim Adduci and Micah Hoffpauir started a fifth-inning rally with back-to-back walks. Adduci scored on a wild pitch and Hoffpauir scored on LaHair's single to come within one, making it 6-5. Castillo doubled for his second extra-base hit of the game, but Round Rock was able to shut the door on the inning- and the game- without further harm.
Iowa's Jackson (3-6, 3.48) was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits through four innings of work. Round Rock's Sergio Perez (3-1, 3.58) picked up the win.
