Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies defeated the Bowie Baysox 3-2 in 11 innings Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium on a Quinn Brodey sacrifice fly that scored Andres Gimenez.
Gimenez started the inning on second and advanced to third on a bunt by Luis Carpio. Brodey hit a fly ball to left, and Gimenez beat the throw home to give Binghamton the win in the home opener.
The Baysox threatened in the top of the 11th and had runners on first and second, when Rylan Bannon singled to left. Jason Krizan fielded it and fired the ball home in time to get Ryan McKenna and to end the inning.
RHP Joe Zanghi (3-2) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief on 22 pitches. Ponies starter Kevin Smith tossed 5.2 innings in which he allowed one run on two hits and struck out eight. Bowie lefty Zach Muckenhirn (2-4) suffered the loss.
The Baysox struck first in the second on Carlos Perez's solo homer, his tenth of the year. The Rumble Ponies evened the score in the fourth on a Gavin Cecchini sacrifice fly and took the lead in the seventh on an Ali Sanchez RBI single. He finished the night 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Bowie answered in the eighth on a two-out Yusniel Diaz RBI single.
The Ponies and the Baysox continue their four-game series Friday night with first pitch at 7:05 PM on NewsRadio 1290 AM WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 6:50 PM.
