Hartford Yard Goats News Release
HARTFORD - The Akron RubberDucks let their bats do the quacking for them, unleashing a 13-hit attack, enroute to a 6-2 win over the Hartford Yard Goats, before a capacity crowd of 6,850 at Dunkin' Donuts Park on Thursday night. The "Christmas In July" crowd was the 31st sellout crowd and ninth straight sellout for the Yard Goats this season. Hartford has also played to 14 capacity crowds, raising the season attendance to 279,977.
The Yard Goats, who are winless in four games against the RubberDucks this season, never led in the game, although they had at least one hit in all but one inning and had base runners in every inning.
Akron took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, when Hartford starter Heath Holder balked home a run. The RubberDucks tacked on two runs in the fourth inning on three straight singles, including an RBI-single by Alex Call.
Hartford ((15-19) got a run back off starter Jake Paulson in the fourth inning on a lead-off double by Alan Trejo and a run-scoring single by Mylz Jones. But the Yard Goats found some coal in their stocking, as Akron (11-24) put the game away in the fifth, chasing Holder, a right-hander, with three runs on four hits, including RBI-singles by Andruw Monasterio and Mitch Longo.
Jones had a double, two singles and an RBI to pace the Yard Goats 10-hit attack. Nelson Molina added two doubles and had a run scored, while Manny Melendez had a double, single an RBI.
Holder, who dropped to 6-3, allowed six runs on 11 hits. Alexander Guillen led the bullpen, which did not permit a run, hurling 2 2/3 innings, striking out four.
Game two of the four-game series is Friday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Brandon Gold will pitch for Hartford and LHP Tanner Tully for Akron. The game will be broadcast on News Radio 1410 AM, on 100.9 FM, in Spanish on 1120 AM and on the Internet on newsradio1410.iheart.com and on MiLB.com. A fireworks display will follow both the Friday and Saturday night games.
