Brahmas End Year With Loss, Lose 4-2 To 'Jacks

Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (December 31)- The 2009 CHL Champions, Texas Brahmas, finished the year with a loss in Odessa as they fell 4-2 Thursday against the Jackalopes.
Brett Jaeger returned between the pipes for Texas and it was Odessa's Kory Karlander who knocked the rust off in the first when he netted his eleventh of the season off a rebound from Jaeger's pads. Two minutes later a blazing shot by Dominic Leveille beat Jaeger for the 2-0 lead.
Forward Matt Burto put Texas within one in the second when the Brahmas 'lethal' penalty kill looked to be right on target as he stole the puck and converted on a breakaway for the tenth shorthanded goal. With the goal, the Brahmas possess the sole lead in the shorthanded category in the league. The game took a physical turn midway through the period when Texas agitator James Hiebert took exception to a hit on his linemates and danced with Jean Bourbeau in front of the Odessa bench, both earning five minute majors with Hiebert grabbing the additional minor for roughing. The fight gave the Jacks, donning special New Year's tuxedo jerseys, an extra kick of momentum as Collin Circelli scored Odessa's third goal of the night. Blood bad continued when Texas' newest enforcer Nathan Perrott attempted to go at it with Patrick Mbaraga, but the linesmen split the two before the pair created their own New Year's Eve fireworks.
Scott Thauwald sent a one timer past Juha Toivonen to push the purple and black within one when he tallied a shorthanded goal, the second of the night for the Brahmas. AJ Gale had the opportunity to tie the game when he was taken down during a breakaway giving him the chance with a penalty shot, but was unable to convert. Karlander looked to have Jaeger's number when he picked up his second goal on the power play at the 7:53 mark in the third.
The Brahmas return home Saturday, January 2 for a Championship Finals rematch against the Colorado Eagles at the NYTEX Sports Centre for a 7:05 PM faceoff. For ticket information please contact the Brahmas at (817) 336-4423 or check www.brahmas.com.
