LAST GAME

Last Game: In the finale of a three-game series against the South Bend Cubs, the Hot Rods clinched their first home series win in a month and shutout their Midwest League East foe by a score of 6-0. LHP Michael Velasquez had a perfect game thru 6.1 innings, fueling the Hot Rods two-hitter.

NEWS AND NOTES

2016 Midwest League All-Stars: On Tuesday, six Hot Rods players were selected to the Midwest League Eastern Division midseason all-star team. SS Jacob Cronenworth was the only selected starter, headlining four position players selected that includes 3B Kevin Padlo, INF Michael Russell and C Brett Sullivan. Joining those four players are LHP Genesis Cabrera and RHP Diego Castillo. At the time of the selection, Cronenworth was tied for the league-lead with a .342 batting average and 41 runs scored, Sullivan also lead the league with 39 runs batted in and was tied for the league lead with 9 homers while Padlo was second in the league with 35 walks and tied for fourth in the league with eight homers. Bowling Green has now sent six or more players to the Midwest League All-Star game four times in franchise history, including last year when they sent eight players. In 2013, the Hot Rods had a franchise-record nine mid-season all-stars.

Resurgence: After snapping a season-high five game losing skid on Saturday, the Hot Rods won the final two games overall against the Cubs, scoring the final 13 runs of the series. The Hot Rods pitchers have not given up an earned run in their last 17 innings pitched.

Baseball Prospectus: Three Bowling Green Hot Rods players were present in the Tampa Bay Rays prospect list (top-30) on MLB.com. Leading the way is 3B Kevin Padlo, who ranks 20th on the list. RHP Jose Mujica is the 25th ranked prospect in the organization while 2B Brandon Lowe comes in at #28.

2016 Homerun Derby: On Friday, C Brett Sullivan was selected as one of six players to participate in the 2016 Midwest League homerun derby. The Midwest League all-star celebrated that his league-leading 10th homer of the season on Saturday against the Cubs.

Vs. Captains: The Hot Rods and Captains are playing each other for the third time this year and the second time in the past two weeks. The two teams met last week at Classic Park, where the Captains won the first two games while the Hot Rods won the series finale. This season, the Hot Rods are 3-4 overall against LC.

Transactions: On Sunday, the Hot Rods sent OF Angel Perez to Hudson Valley while OF David Olmedo-Barrera was added to the Hot Rods active roster. Olmedo-Barrera, a 12th round draft pick in 2015, hit .288 with four homers and 21 runs batted in with Princeton (Appalachian League) last year. Perez played 28 games with the Hot Rods, hitting .190 with eight runs batted in. Overall, the Hot Rods have made 22 transactions this year, promoting 4 players to A+ Port Charlotte, receiving 3 players from A+ Port Charlotte and have three players currently on the disabled list.

News and Notes: The Hot Rods have scored 11 or more runs five times this season, two more times than all of last year...Bowling Green tied a franchise-record with 7 doubles on 4/26 vs. CLI (Last set: 7/20/15 vs. LC) ... During game two of a doubleheader with DAY on 5/21, the Hot Rods played their shortest 7-inning game in franchise history (1:26), shattering the previous shortest game by 10 minutes... With a GS-homer and 5 RBI on 5/22 at DAY, Brett Sullivan became the first Hot Rods player with 5 RBI in a game since 6/30/13 (Leo Reginatto) and the first BG player with a grandslam since 7/2/15 (Riley Unroe)... on 5/31 at Lake County, Hot Rods pitchers set a franchise-record by issuing 12 walks, breaking the previous record of 11 that was set six other times in seven prior seasons... LHP Michael Velasquez had a perfect game bid broken after 6.1 innings on 6/12 vs. SB, but Hot Rods pitchers combined to give up season-low two hits in 6-0 win.

Current Trends: The Bowling Green Hot Rods snapped a streak of 14 straight games under three hours last night against Fort Wayne (3:15)... Hot Rods are 6-9 in their last 15 games, but have scored three or fewer runs in each of those losses and five or more runs in each of their wins... After walking no more than nine batters in a game all of last season, the Hot Rods pitching staff has walked 10 or more batters twice (12 on 5/31 and 10 on 6/8) in the last two weeks
