(Cedar Rapids-IA) - Joe Gatto held the Cedar Rapids Kernels (33-30) to just one run in a Burlington Bees (31-33) 5-1 win on Monday night at Perfect Game Field in Cedar Rapids.

The Bees wasted no time getting things started on Monday night. Jared Foster led off the game with a walk and moved to second when Angelo Amendolare was hit by a pitch. Brendon Sanger then grounded a ball to the right field corner, scoring both Foster and Amendolare, giving the Bees a 2-0 lead.

The Bees then added to their lead in the fourth. With two outs and the bases empty, Michael Hermosillo doubled to left center. After moving to third on a balk, Hermosillo came home to score on a Ranyelmy Alberto infield single, upping the Bees lead to 3-0.

After the Kernels got on the board in the fifth on a Sean Miller RBI single, the Bees bullpen went on to throw four scoreless innings. Aaron Cox threw a scoreless sixth while Sam Holland and Zach Hartman combined for the final three. The Bees added insurance in the eighth on a Jared Foster two run single, upping the Bees lead to 5-1.

Bees starting pitcher Joe Gatto (3-7) allowed just one run in five innings, earning the win. Cedar Rapids starter, Sam Clay (4-3) was charged the loss. The Bees and the Kernels continue the series on Tuesday night at 6:35. Jaime Barria makes the start for the Bees against Fernando Romero for Cedar Rapids.
