Akron RubberDucks News Release
Bowie's Austin Hays smacked a two-run home run, and Dillon Tate worked into the seventh inning and allowed just two runs, as the Baysox defeated the Akron RubberDucks, 5-3, Monday night at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.
Turning Point
The Baysox (64-67) scored three of their runs in the third inning when they batted around against Argenis Angulo (2-5). Erik Salcedo drove in the first run of the game with a RBI triple, and Hays followed with a towering homer to left to extend the lead to 3-0. The Sox then loaded the bases with three more singles, but Angulo wiggled out of the jam without further damage. It was the 10thhomer of the year for Hays.
Mound Presence
Akron starter Aaron Civale was taken out of the game after just eight pitches due to a right shoulder injury. James Karinchak came in cold and tossed 1.2 scoreless innings. Angulo worked two innings, and Kieran Lovegrove chipped in three scoreless frames. The Sox got to right-hander Nick Sandlin for a pair of runs in the eighth to make it 5-2. Lefty R.C. Orlan pitched a scoreless ninth.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks (74-59) couldn't muster much offense against Dillon Tate (7-5). The right-hander pitched into the seventh inning and allowed just two runs on seven hits. After a pair of Ducks hits in the third, Alexis Pantoja drove in a run with a fielder's choice to make it 3-1. Mark Mathias belted a run-scoring double in the seventh to pull the Ducks to within 3-2 at the time. That hit knocked Tate from the game. Mathias was 2-3 on the night. Sam Haggerty and Andrew Calica had back-to-back, lead-off singles in the eighth, but Zach Pop limited the damage to one run on a fielder's choice grounder by Nellie Rodriguez to make it 5-3.
