Florida Everblades News Release
ANCHORAGE, AK - The Florida Everblades (3-2-0) suffered a hard-fought 3-1 loss to the Alaska Aces (3-1-1) on Friday night at Sullivan Arena in front of a crowd of 5,504. Aces goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu led the way for Alaska by stopping 25 of 26 Everblades shots.
Home-opening night for the Aces began at a furious pace and both teams rushed end to end over the first 10 minutes of the contest. It was the Aces however that opened the scoring, when Josh Soares took a pass from Peter Metcalfe at 10:51 and slipped it past Everblades goaltender Justin Peters from the top of the crease. Alaska added to their lead shortly after when the line of Bo Cheeseman, Barrett Heisten and Olivier Filion team up with five minutes remaining in the period when Cheeseman lifted a shot under the crossbar from the left side of the net for the 2-0 lead.
The Everblades looked strong in the second period, out-shooting the Aces 8-3, although neither team found the back of the net allowing the Aces to carry their 2-0 lead into the third period. The Everblades kept the pressure on in the third period and eventually got rewarded when Derek Damon's pass to the slot ricocheted off Ernie Hartlieb's body and into the net at 11:02 to trim the Aces lead to one. The Everblades continued to press, but Beckford-Tseu remained strong and turned away the final chances by Florida. The Aces eventually sealed the win with an empty net goal by Cam Keith with 46 seconds remaining in the game.
Peters played well, but suffered the tough-luck loss allowing two goals on 23 shots to see his record drop to 3-1-0 on the season. Beckford-Tseu picked up the win to improve his record to 2-1-0.
On the power play, the Everblades closed out night 0-for-3, while the Aces finished 0-for-4 on the power play.
