Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (4-4-0=8) of the ECHL were shutout for the second time this season, 3-0, by the Cincinnati Cyclones in Reading's 2007-08 home opener before 7090 at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Royals outshot the Cyclones (29-19)-and had several golden scoring chances through the first half of the game-but goaltender Cedrick Desjardins (2-1-0, 29/29) made the big stops at the big moments to dishearten the Royals' attack and register his second career shutout against Reading. Royals' goaltender Jon Quick made several solid stops of his own, but his turnover in the early stages of the second period resulted in the only goal Cincinnati would need in this one. Reading's power play (0-6) continued to struggle, having scored just three times in forty-eight chances with the man advantage this season.

After a scoreless first period, Cincinnati got on the board at the 6:10 mark of the second period, when Quick came out of the net to play a loose puck in the Royals' defensive zone. Quick took control of the puck seven feet off the top of his crease and pushed it towards the half wall just as the Cyclones' Andrew Martin pressured in front of him. Martin stretched out, stole Quick's clearing attempt, turned and wheel it to the top of the crease where Scott Reynolds was charging in. Although Quick tried to hustle back into position, Reynolds got there first and re-directed the puck into the empty net for his first goal of the season. Reynolds scored his second goal of the game at the 1:38 mark of the third, while Cincinnati was playing with a five-on-three skater advantage. The Cyclones worked the puck low on the left side and Thomas Beauregard found Reynolds in the mid slot. Reynolds' low one-timer beat Quick through the five-hole to make it 2-0 Cincinnati. The Cyclones added some further insurance at the 5:51 mark of the third when Jean Michel Daoust and David Deshairnais worked a give and go deep into the Royals' defensive zone. The play appeared to break down at the right side of Reading's but Daoust was able to slip the puck to the left top of the crease, where Travis Fuller banged it in for his fourth goal of the season. As the third period progressed, Reading appeared to run low on energy and was never able to muster the chances needed to get back in the game, as Desjardins and his Cyclone teammates closed out the win.

The Royals are back in action tomorrow evening (5:05 pm) at the Sovereign Center when they face the Elmira Jackals for the first time in team history. The first 1500 fans in attendance at tomorrow's game will receive a Royals' car flag courtesy of Frank FM 107.5. The game night radio broadcast will begin at 4:35 pm with the pre-game warm-up show on ESPN Radio 1240 am and on the internet at www.royalshockey.com. Streaming video is available on a pay per view basis through the B2 Networks.
