Fresno Falcons News Release
Phoenix, Ariz. - The Fresno Falcons recorded their first road win of the season, defeating the Phoenix RoadRunners 5-3 on Saturday at US Airways Center.
After scoring just five power-play goals in their first six games this season, the Falcons scored two in the first period to take a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Brett Hemingway opened the scoring 7:03 into the first period, taking a cross-crease feed from Igor Gongalsky and beating Cody Rudkowsky to the stick side for his second goal of the season.
Fresno doubled the lead at 18:43. Brady Leisenring sped across the Phoenix line, and moved the puck to Jarrett Konkle on the left-wing side. Konkle sent a quick one timer to the front of the net which beat Rudkowsky for his third of the year.
P.O. Beaulieu extended Fresno's lead to 3-0 with his third goal in as many games 4:10 into the second period. Beaulieu gathered in a pass at the blue line, skated into the left-wing circle, and beat Rudkowsky with a wrist shot through traffic.
Josh Ciocoo's first goal with the Falcons 2:40 into the third period gave the Falcons a 4-0 lead. Matt O'Dette found Ciocco all alone at the top of the crease, and he made a nice move to deke Rudkowsky to the ice and slide a shot home on the near post.
Phoenix then came back, scoring three goals just 1:10 apart to pull within one goal. Ian Turner put the RoadRunners on the scoreboard with his second goal of the season at 4:44, beating John Ceci with a shot from the left point.
Peder Skinner cut the Falcons lead to two at 5:39, and Thatcher Bell finished off the flurry with his third goal of the season at 5:54.
Fresno got a little breathing room, taking a 5-3 lead at 13:57. Dan Glover took a shot from the left point which was deflected in front by Igor Gongalsky, who recorded his second goal of the season.
Ceci finished the night with 49 saves, recording his second win of the season. Fresno's penalty kill had its first perfect game of the season, killing off all eight of the RoadRunners' power-play opportunities.
The Falcons enjoy a week off before returning to action on Sunday, November 11, with a 4:00 p.m. face-off in Stockton. Catch all of the action on 790 ESPN Radio, The Deuce, starting with the Port of Subs Pre-Game Show at 3:45.
