
Blades Bust out Brooms; Sweep Walleye

Estero, FL - The Florida Everblades and the Toledo Walleye finished up a three-game series on Saturday night, with the first two match-ups won by the Blades. Florida battled hard and came out victorious 5-4 in overtime. Defensemen Scott Hotham tallied the game winning goal for the Everblades and center Rob Hennigar added four helpers in the 5-4 OT victory. Goaltender Mike Morrison made 32 of 36 saves earning his fifth win of the season. Rob Hennigar continued a point scoring streak that reaches seven games and Jacob Micflikier and Scott Hotham are extended their point streak to three games.
The first period began with Toledo having a goal nullified at 14:11, after a Walleye player slid into Blades goaltender Mike Morrison before the puck trickled in the net. The Walleye were 0-4 on the power play and out shot the Everblades 19-6 in the first stanza.
The Walleye broke the scoreless game at 3:28 in the second as defensemen Jamie Milam scored a short-handed goal putting the Walleye up 1-0. Forwards Evan Rankin and Adam Hobson picked up the helpers. Less then two minutes later left winger Ahren Spylo scored his first goal as an Everblade; tying the game at 1-1. Blades defensemen Peter Metcalf and center Rob Hennigar added assists. Then at 7:01, Walleye center Adam Hobson scored his seventh tally of the season giving Toledo a 2-1 lead. The Blades battled back again, as left winger Brandon Buck fed a goal mouth pass to Jordan Morrison who evened the score at 2-2. The Everblades took their first lead of the night as defensemen Scott Hotham scored his third tally of the season. Toledo managed to tie the game at 3-3 courtesy of center Tommy Lange netting his third goal of the season.
In the final period, Blades defensemen A.J. Thelen scored on the power play for the second consecutive night putting the Blades up 4-3. Jacob Micfliker and Rob Hennigar added assists. Toledo fought back and tied the game at 4-4 after Tommy Lange scored his second goal of the game at 12:37. Lange is the first player this season to have scored a short-handed and a power play goal in the same game against the Blades.
In overtime, Blades defensemen Scott Hotham scored on the power play with a shot from the left circle ceiling the victory 5-4.
