Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Chiefs lost to the Wheeling Nailers in overtime at the UPMC Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena by a score of 4-3 on Friday night.

With the overtime loss the Chiefs record becomes 2-6-3, giving the Chiefs 7 points.

The Wheeling Nailers opened the scoring quickly, with Tom Beauregard slipping his 8th of the season past goalie Shane Connelly with just a minute twenty gone in the first period. The Chiefs did not hesitate to respond however, Moises Gutierrez scoring his first of the season just 9 seconds later, slamming a Connor Shields pass past goalie Adam Berkhoel for Shields' first pro assist.

Eight minutes into the second period, the Chiefs took the lead off of Troy Schwab's stick, netting his third of the season, assisted by Shields, his second assist of the game and Jim McKenzie extending his point streak to seven games. Less than two minutes later McKenzie struck again, setting up Russ Sinkewich for his first professional goal. Fights erupted at the end of the second as a scrum in front of the net resulted in Sinkewich stepping up to the Nailers' Aaron Clarke in decisive fashion. The fight, with less than two minutes left in the period resulted in 5 penalties between the two teams, with the Chiefs coming up shorthanded as McKenzie got a tripping minor, the call that started the rumble.

The Chiefs started the third period strong, until the ten minute mark, when Wheelings' Blair Yaworski put the Nailers within one goal with 9:30 remaining in regulation. The Chiefs held strong until the 18:01 mark when Casey Pierro-Zabotel tied the score, slipping a bouncing puck between Connelly's pads. The Nailers scored the overtime game winning goal with 52 seconds left, from the stick of Joey Haddad.

Shane Connelly took the overtime loss, saving 31 of 35 shots. The Chiefs' power play went 1-for-3 tonight; their penalty kill was 4-for-4. The Chiefs are now 22-for-22 at the UPMC Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena this season.
