Bisons Split Twinbill with Rival Wings
May 29, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Buffalo Bisons had one big inning while the Rochester Red Wings had one bit hit. As a result, each team earned a win.
The Herd split a doubleheader with their closest rival on Friday night from Coca-Cola Field. Rochester's Ryan Wheeler hit a monster two-run home run in a 2-1 game one victory. The Bisons sent 10 men to the plate in a four-run third inning to take the night cap, 4-2.
Each team scored in just one inning in each game. Wheeler's two run shot to deep centerfield came in the second inning of Rochester's game one victory. The blast may have been more damaging that just the two runs against the Herd. Two pitches after the homer, Bisons' starter Miguel Castro left the contest with an apparent hand injury.
The Blue Jays reported that Castro will see a hand specialist and undergo further testing.
The Bisons scored their lone first game tally in the bottom of the second inning on a long solo home run from Andy Burns. Buffalo had just three hits after that as Pat Dean worked into the seventh inning for his fifth win for the Red Wings.
In game two, it was the third inning that brought the runs. After Rochester took a 2-0 lead on Danny Ortiz's two-run single, the Bisons scored four times in the bottom half of the frame. Sean Ochinko, Munenori Kawasaki and Chris Dickerson opened the inning with singles and Ochinko scored when Argenis Diaz dropped Burns' sure doubleplay ball at short.
Down 2-1, the Bisons took advantage of the error as rehabbing Dioner Navarro muscled a broken-bat blooper into right field to tie the game. Matt Hague pulled Buffalo ahead with a line-drive single into left that brought in two more runs.
Hague finished the night with four hits in five at-bats to raise his average to .343. He was 2-2 with a double and a walk in game two.
Devon Travis started game one for the Bisons and went hitless in four at-bats in his Triple-A debut. Travis joined Buffalo on an MLB injury rehab assignment from Toronto.
