Bats Had Only One Hit in the Loss to Pawtucket, 1-0

PAWTUCKET, RI- The Louisville Bats (24-24) started the three game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox (25-24) tonight at McCoy Stadium, but with only one hit lost 1-0.

Starting on the mound for the Bats was righty Josh Smith(L 1-2) who looked to secure his second win of the season. He went for seven innings, allowed six hits, one earned run, walked two, and struck out four. He was relieved by righty Sam LeCure at the start of the eighth inning.

On the mound for the PawSox was lefty Brian Johnson (W 6-3), the Bats were unable to get past him as Brian allowed six hitless innings after throwing 79 pitches. He was relived by righty Miguel Celestino after six innings. Johnson went for six innings, allowed no hits, no runs, no walks, and struck out nine.

In the second inning Pawtucket had the bases loaded with no outs. A line drive single to left field by shortstop Deven Marrero allowed right fielder Allen Craig to score the only run of the game. The Bats were able to escape that inning with just one run by a double play and a strikeout by Smith.

The last series against Pawtucket the Bats won 3-4 and out scored them 22-16. With Louisville unable to act offensively, they will go into game two 0-1.

Tomorrow Louisville continues their series against Pawtucket at 6:05 P.M. Projected to pitch for the Bats is David Holmberg (3-3,5.13) and for the PawSox Henry Owens (2-3, 2.98).
