Today's Game
Tonight, the Bisons open up a seven-game homestand with the first contest of a three-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens (6:05 p.m.). The Herd is coming off a 4-3 roadtrip that ended with a 2-1 series loss in Norfolk. Buffalo is just 5-9 at Coca-Cola Field this season.
Last Game (NOR 2, BUF 1)
The Tides scored a pair of runs on a RHP Drew Hutchison throwing error to take the 2-1 victory on Sunday at Harbor Park. Hutchison was great on the mound, striking out eight in six innings but fell to 0-2 on the season. OF Junior Lake provided the only offense for the Herd with a home run as part of his 2-4 day at the plate.
vs. Toledo (0-0)
The Bisons and Mud Hens will meet six times this season, with a three-game series at Fifth Third Field from May 27-29. The clubs split last year's matchup with four wins each. Buffalo has not earned a season series win against the Hens since 2008 (5-3).
Scott Diamond
LHP Scott Diamond has made four consecutive quality starts for the Herd. However, despite a 2.16 ERA since April 24, the southpaw has an 0-2 record. In his seven total starts this season, the Bisons have provided him just 12 runs of support (1.7/game). Diamond has not walked more than two batters in an outing this season and has held right-handed hitters to a .187 average against with 20 hits and 21 strikeouts.
Dalton Pompey
OF Dalton Pompey has hit in seven straight games, his second hit streak of at least six games this year. The outfielder began the season with a six-game hit streak, April 12-17. In his most recent stretch, Pompey has averaged .357 (10-28) with three doubles, a home run, five RBI and three runs scored since May 8.
Pitching Prowess
In the last nine games, Bisons' pitchers have posted a 0.92 ERA, with 85 strikeouts to only 60 hits allowed in 78.0 innings. On May 7, the Herd had the 12th best ERA in the league (3.83), but they enter play today with the 4th-best mark (3.13) in the circuit. Herd pitchers have allowed the 2nd-fewest home runs (16) and the 4th-fewest walks (103).
Bisons Bits
Yesterday's defeat was the Herd's first when outhitting their opponents (10-1)...Toledo's roster features seven former Bisons players (RHP Matt Boyd, RHP Preston Guilmet, LHP Daniel Norris, RHP Bobby Parnell, C Humberto Quintero, INF Jordany Valdespin, RHP Thad Weber). Manager Lloyd McClendon played for the Herd in 1995 and Detroit optioned OF Anthony Gose to the Mud Hens yesterday.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (19-20) lost 7-6 to Texas on Sunday in a game that featured eight ejections, including Toronto Manager John Gibbons, 3B Josh Donaldson and OF Jose Bautista. The Blue Jays had a 6-3 lead in the seventh before the Rangers rallied for four runs. Toronto returns to Rogers Centre tonight to open a three-game series against Tampa Bay (7:07 p.m.).
