Tim Anderson Named IL Batter of the Week

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Charlotte shortstop Tim Anderson, who hit .432 (16-for-37) with three home runs and six RBIs over eight games last week, was named as the International League's Batter of the Week for the period of May 9-15, as announced by the International League of Professional Baseball Clubs, Inc. this morning.

Over the course of the eight-game week, Anderson hit safely in seven of the eight-games (May 9-14) and strung together five multi-hit games. Ranked as the number one prospect in the Chicago White Sox system by Baseball America, Anderson also homered in three-straight games last week (May 12-14) and scored 12 runs. The 22-year-old recorded four hits and reached base five times in Charlotte's 12-3 win over the Norfolk Tides on May 12.

For the season, the Tuscaloosa, AL native is hitting .276 (40-for-145) with 23 runs scored, five doubles, three home runs, 13 RBIs, and eight stolen bases. He currently ranks third in the IL in at-bats (145), tied for fourth in hits (40), tied for second in runs scored (23), and sixth in stolen bases (8).

The red-hot Charlotte Knights, who have won seven of their last eight games, will open a three-game series against the Rochester Red Wings tonight at 7:05 p.m. from BB&T Ballpark. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and it's Auto Racing Night at the ballpark with driver Brennan Poole and Charlotte Motor Speedway mascot Lug Nut. Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN 730 AM and CharlotteKnights.com.
