Rochester Red Wings News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - Rochester Red Wings left-hander Andrew Albers has been named International League Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Albers made one start, needing just 91 pitches in a complete game win vs. Gwinnett as Rochester knocked off the Braves 7-1 on Wednesday. The southpaw from North Battleford, Saskatchewan allowed three hits and one walk while striking out six batters. He had seven 1-2-3 innings and faced only three batters in another thanks to a double play. The complete game was the sixth of his pro career and fifth in the minors. Albers tossed three of those as a member of the Red Wings in 2013.

The lefty has made three starts with Rochester this season, going 1-0 with a 3.54 ERA (8 ER, 20.1 IP). Albers made one start with Independent Lancaster before joining the Red Wings on April 29.

Albers is the first Red Wing to earn a league award this season after Rochester had eight players receive honors last season. A Wing was honored as Pitcher of the Week six times last season including Tommy Milone, who earned the award in back-to-back weeks on May 18 and 25.
