International League Names Players of the Week
May 16, 2016 - International League (IL1) News Release
The International League announced today that Charlotte shortstop Tim Anderson and Rochester pitcher Andrew Albers have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from May 9-Â15.  Each player is the first on his respective club to claim an IL weekly award during the 2016 season.
TIM ANDERSON, Charlotte Knights IL BATTER OF THE WEEK
This week Charlotte's Tim Anderson showed why he's widely considered to be one of the top prospects in the White Sox farm system, collecting multiple hits five times and homering in three- straight games for the surging IL South leaders.  Anderson hit .432 for the week and paced the International League with 16 hits, five extra-Âbase hits, 27 total bases, 12 runs scored, and four stolen bases.  Anderson's big week saw his batting average improve from .222 to .276, and he is now tied for 2nd  in the League with 23 runs scored on  the season.
22-Âyear-Âold Tim Anderson is in his fourth season as a professional player since being selected by the White Sox in the 1st  round of the 2013 draft.  This is his first season playing above the Double-ÂA level.Â
Anderson is a native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
ANDREW ALBERS, Rochester Red Wings IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Left-Âhander Andrew Albers tossed a complete game three-Âhitter Wednesday to lead Rochester to a 7-Â1 win over Gwinnett.  The Braves entered the night as the League's top-Âhitting offense but mustered only a 4th-Âinning RBI single by Adonis Garcia in defeat.  The Red Wings cruised to victory behind Albers, who needed just 91 pitches to dispatch the Braves.  He walked only one while striking out six. It was Albers' first victory of the season, having signed with the Twins as a free agent in late April.  He hadn't received a decision in either of his first two starts with Rochester.
30-Âyear-Âold Andrew Albers is back in the Twins organization, for whom he pitched from 2011-Â13.  Albers was originally drafted in 2008 by San Diego but his career was beset by injuries early on.  He went 11-Â5 for Rochester in 2013 and made ten starts for the Twins.  He pitched in the Toronto organization last season, making one appearance for the Blue Jays.  Albers is a native of North Battleford, Canada.
