The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (19-18) dropped a heartbreaker to the Syracuse Chiefs (20-16) by a score of 5-4 on Monday night at Coca-Cola Park.

The Chiefs took the lead in the top of the ninth as pinch-hitter Tony Campana led off with a single, advanced to second on a sac bunt and scored on Brian Goodwin's go-ahead RBI single.

RHP Edward Mujica (1.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER) was dealt the loss for the Pigs and drops to 0-3 on the year.

RHP Trevor Gott (1.0 IP, BB) earned the win for the Chiefs to improve his record to 3-1 on the season. RHP Rafael Martin (1.0 IP, K) retired the side in order in the ninth to notch his seventh save of the year.

The Pigs outhit the Chiefs 14-7 in the game, but left 11 men on base.

Darin Ruf's solo shot in the bottom of the second off of Syracuse starter Austin Voth gave the IronPigs a 1-0 lead. The home run was Ruf's first of the season as it came in his first at-bat back with Lehigh Valley.

In the home half of the third, Taylor Featherston got on base with a one-out triple and scored on a wild pitch from Voth to give the Pigs a 2-0 advantage.

Carlos Alonso reached with a one-out single in the fourth, stole second and later scored on Cedric Hunter's two-out RBI single to open up a 3-0 lead for the IronPigs.

Voth (n/d) was tagged with the three runs on nine hits while walking one and fanning five in 4.1 IP.

A three-run sixth tied things at three apiece for the Chiefs as Matt Skole knocked home a run via an RBI single and an error by Pigs CF Nick Williams allowed another run to score on the play. Jason Martinson tied it at three with an RBI groundout later in the frame. Syracuse had the bases loaded with two outs in the inning, but LHP James Russell was able to get pinch-hitter Kevin Keyes to fly out to right and escape the jam.

IronPigs starter Mark Appel (n/d) gave up three runs on three hits to go along with four walks and six strikeouts.

The IronPigs took the lead for the time being with a run in the home half of the frame as pinch-hitter Cam Perkins reached with a bunt single, advanced to third on a single and scored on Featherston's RBI infield single to give the Pigs a 4-3 lead.

Syracuse tied it at four apiece in the top of the seventh when Trea Turner led off with a triple and scored on Goodwin's RBI groundout. The run was charged to RHP Severino Gonzalez (2.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, K).

In the top of the eighth, the Chiefs had a runner at second with two outs, but Williams robbed Pedro Severino of a hit with a diving catch in the right centerfield gap to end the inning.

Lehigh Valley threatened in the bottom half of the frame as they also had the potential go-ahead run at second with two outs, but Skole made a diving snag at first base of a line drive off the bat of Williams to end the threat.

Five different players had multi-hit games for manager Dave Brundage's squad: Featherston (2-5, 3B, RBI, R), Hunter (2-4, RBI), Ruf (2-5, HR, RBI, R), Williams (2-5) and Logan Moore (2-4, 3B).
