Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY - The Columbus Clippers again used home runs to their advantage for a 14-3 victory over the Buffalo Bisons in the last game of the series at Sahlen Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Bisons once again scored first against Columbus, the team scored the opening run in all six games of the series this week. Spencer Horwitz walked with one out in the bottom of the first and scored on Rafael Lantigua's sacrifice fly to center field. His 16th RBI of the season gave Buffalo a short lived 1-0 lead.
Trenton Brooks tied the game at one with an RBI double and promptly scored on a groundout by Will Brennan. Brooks had a hand in a majority of the offense for Columbus in the game, belting a two-run home run in the top of the fifth as well.
Buffalo was able to re-take the lead thanks to a Zack Collins two-run homer in the bottom of the third that allowed the team to jump in front of the Clippers 3-2. However, a solo homer by David Fry and a two-run shot by Brayan Rocchio made the score 5-3 Columbus. They extended the lead to 7-3 thanks to Brooks' third hit of the game.
Columbus scored 11 unanswered runs in the victory. But, Otto Lopez was able to extend his hitting streak to 19 games in a row with a leadoff base hit in the bottom of the eighth. It was the second straight night where Lopez was able to extend his streak in his final at-bat.
The Bisons dropped four of the six games in the series against Columbus but won the overall season series with seven victories in 12 games. It is eighth season series win for Buffalo in the last nine seasons against the Clippers.
Buffalo now heads out on the road to take on the Worcester Red Sox for a six-game set. The opening game of the series is Tuesday night at Polar Park with a 6:45 p.m. first pitch.
