Louisville Bats News Release
TOLEDO, OH - Three Bats recorded multi-hit games but the effort wasn't enough as Louisville (51-72) dropped game six 6-2 to the Toledo Mud Hens (65-56) on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Field.
The Bats offense wasted no time today, scoring two runs in the opening frame of the game. With one out in the inning, Leonardo Rivas singled and then stole second to get himself into scoring position. In the next at-bat Stephen Piscotty doubled to left field to bring Rivas home and give Louisville a 1-0 lead. With two in the inning, Juniel Querecuto lined a single into the outfield to score Piscotty and extend the Bats lead to 2-0.
Toledo tallied a run of its own two innings later to cut the Louisville lead in half. The Mud Hens got a triple out of their leadoff spot in the bottom of the third and were able to bring him on in the next at-bat with a ground out RBI to make the score 2-1.
The Mud Hens added on three more in the fourth with back-to-back home runs, a two-run and solo shot, to take a 4-2 lead over the Bats. Toledo continued to add on, scoring another run in the home half of the sixth, courtesy of its third home run of the game, extending the lead to 5-2.
Louisville had its best scoring chance since the first inning in the top of the eighth. Eric Yang led off the inning with a line drive single, followed by a double by Isiah Gilliam, putting two runners in scoring position with no outs. The threat would ultimately come to pass as the Mud Hens got the next three Louisville hitters out in order with no damage done.
The Bats got a runner on the top of the ninth but couldn't mount a rally as they dropped game six 6-2.
Louisville will enjoy a scheduled day off tomorrow, Monday Aug. 29, before kicking off a two-week homestand on Tuesday Aug. 31 with a six-game series against the Indianapolis Indians.
