SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Worcester Red Sox (63-60) clinched a series victory with a 7-5 win over the Syracuse Mets (52-71) on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium.

Three batters into the ballgame, Triston Casas put the road team on top with a solo home run, an opposite-field blast to left-center. In six games at Syracuse, Casas went 9-for-23 (.391) with seven walks and four extra-base-hits.

An inning later, Worcester loaded the bases with no one out against Mets starter Josh Hejka. Ryan Fitzgerald was next, and he lifted a sacrifice fly to left to make it 2-0. The swing gave Fitzgerald his sixth sac-fly of the season, a mark that ranks second in the International League. Nick Sogard followed with his fifth RBI of the week, a run-scoring single to extend the lead to 3-0.

Syracuse got on the board in the second with a Gosuke Katoh RBI single, but half an inning later, the WooSox offense answered. Enmanuel Valdez led off the frame with a solo shot to right center, a towering fly ball for his 26th MiLB home run this season.

Valdez, acquired in a trade deadline deal with Houston, now has five long balls in 22 games with Worcester.

In the fifth, Pedro Castellanos extended the lead with a two-run single in the fifth, a bloop that found a spot in right to put the road team up 6-2.

On the mound, Josh Winckowski made his first Triple-A start since June 8 and worked into the fifth, posting the following line: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K. He allowed a Khalil Lee RBI single in the fourth, then gave up two in the fifth on a Terrance Gore single and a bases-loaded walk to Lee.

The teams traded runs late in the ballgame-Sogard capped off an eight-hit, six RBI week with an RBI single in the eighth, and Nick Dini homered for Syracuse in the ninth.

Geoff Hartlieb and A.J. Politi posted scoreless outings out of the bullpen, while Frank German allowed the Dini home run.

The win gives Worcester its first series victory since June 28-July 3 at Rochester.

The WooSox are off Monday and begin a six-game series at Polar Park on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. against the Buffalo Bisons, affiliate of Toronto Blue Jays. On the mound, Chris Murphy (3-3, 5.06) is the scheduled starter for Worcester. Radio coverage is live at 6:25 p.m. on 100.1 FM The Pike 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network, while television coverage is on NESN+.
