Buffalo Bisons News Release

BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Bisons fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 7-4 on Saturday night at Sahlen Field in the second-to-last game of this six-game series.

Neither starter was particularly sharp in this one; Nick Allgeyer got hit hard for the second straight outing, giving up seven runs (six earned) on six hits including a pair of homers. Scranton starter Matt Krook only gave up three runs (two earned), but walked six as he struggled with command, though he did manage to strike out seven. Both starters failed to make it past the fifth.

A two-run homer off the bat of José Peraza in the second opened the scoring, but it was the following frame where the RailRiders did the bulk of their damage. Oswaldo Cabrera doubled and came around to score on a throwing error by catcher Stevie Berman, before Greg Bird, who spent Spring Training with the Blue Jays, hit a three-run homer to make it a 6-0 game.

The Bisons would score their first run of the game in the bottom half off a Gabriel Moreno RBI single, and would add another pair of runs in the fifth thanks to a bases loaded walk to Nick Podkul, who came on to pinch hit for Moreno, and a passed ball that allowed Eric Stamets to score from third. The speed of Samad Taylor was on full display in the eighth, when he bunted for a base hit, stole second and third, and then tagged and scored on a fly ball to center to cut the deficit to three.

Graham Spraker and Joe Biagini kept the score as is by throwing two scoreless innings apiece, before Adrian Hernandez threw a 1-2-3 top of the ninth. The Bisons had the top of the order up in the bottom half, but Greg Weissert was able to record the save and lock up the win for the RailRiders.

The Herd will look to win the series in tomorrow afternoon's finale with righthander Thomas Hatch back on the mound against Scranton lefty Manny Banuelos. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. EST. You can watch the game locally in Western New York and Southern Ontario on WNLO, The CW-23 starting at one o'clock. Pat Malacaro and Duke McGuire will have all the action on TV and radio.
