Today's Game

This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Syracuse Chiefs in the finale of their three-game series. The Herd is looking to stave off a series sweep at the hands of their Thruway Cup rivals. On Monday Buffalo begins a four-game home and home series with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, with the first two games at Coca-Cola Field. The Herd then leads into the All-Star break with a weekend series vs. Syracuse.

Last Game: BUF 3, SYR 8

The Bisons struck first for the second straight game against Syracuse, but for the second night in a row the home team walked away with the win. C Reese McGuire hit a 2R HR, and INF Gift Ngoepe hit a solo HR to account for all of Buffalo's offense in the loss. The Chiefs struck for five runs in the fourth inning off of RHP Nick Tepesch to send the starter to his third loss of the year in Triple-A.

Syracuse (6-4)

The last series between the Bisons and Chiefs was May 21-24 at Coca-Cola Field. The four-game series was split with the Herd taking the first two and the Chiefs taking the last two. Buffalo makes just two trips to NBT Bank Stadium this season, with the next representing the last four games of the regular season on August 31 and September 1-3. In two starts against the division rival, RHP Chris Rowley has a 2.77 ERA in 13 IP (1-0).

Today's Starter: RHP Sean Reid-Foley

RHP Sean Reid-Foley is looking to notch his second victory in a row, making his eighth start of the year for Buffalo. The right hander went 6.2IP, giving up 6H, 1R/ER, 2BB, 8SO in a win against Pawtucket on 6/25. Reid-Foley has won three of his last four start with the Bisons, after a loss and two no decisions in his first three starts for the Herd.

Reese McGuire

C Reese McGuire collected his fourth home run of the season for the Bisons on Saturday. The catcher also now has 20 RBIs on the season. He has increased his batting average by 37 points with a .303AVG in the month of June. He began the month at .206, and starts July hitting .243. Also, half of McGuire's 20 RBIs came in June.

Gift Ngoepe

INF Gift Ngoepe closed out June with a 2-2 day at the plate, in addition to two walks against Syracuse. Ngoepe had been hitless in his previous five games (0-13) before his solo home run in the third inning on Saturday. The two hits were the fourth multi-hit game for the infielder with the Bisons this season.

Transactions

On Saturday, RHP Jake Petricka was recalled by the Toronto Blue Jays, while OF Andrew Guillotte was assigned from New Hampshire (AA) in a corresponding move.

Bisons' Bits

Buffalo leads the International League in stolen bases with 72 as a team. Six better than Indianapolis, who has 66 in 2018...OF Roemon Fields sits alone in third place in the Modern Era with 60 career stolen bases. He trails Dave Roberts (97) and Greg Tubbs (67)...C Danny Jansen's .299AVG is the eighth best in the IL entering Sunday.

Blue Jays Update

Toronto (39-43) scored a walk-off win thanks to 1B Justin Smoak on Saturday to defeat the Detroit Tigers 4-3. LHP J.A. Happ starts this afternoon (1:07 p.m.) in game three of the four-game series against Detroit. The New York Mets will play two games at Rogers Centre before a scheduled off day on Thursday. Toronto closes out a nine-game, ten day homestand against the Yankees July 6-8.
