From the Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indians dug out of a 7-0 hole but lost in walk-off fashion on a Yu Chang homer in the ninth, falling 10-9 and losing the series. The defeat was Indy's third straight and made them 2-7 at Huntington Park this season, its most in Columbus since eight losses in 2016. Eric Haase hit a pair of home runs to help the home team build a 7-0 lead, but the Tribe rallied for seven runs from the third thru the sixth innings to pull within two at 9-7. The score remained that way until the ninth. Down to their last strike, the Indians battled and stayed alive thanks to a Jerrick Suiter single. Jackson Williams then clubbed a game-tying homer, Indy's 17th hit of the night. Josh Smoker took the loss to drop to 3-1, and Mitch Keller took a no-decision after a shaky Triple-A debut.

WHAT A JUNE: The Indians finished with 18 wins in June, tied with Lehigh Valley for most in all of Triple-A. Indy last won 18 games in the season's third month in 2013, going 18-11 in 29 games. The Tribe had a league-best .289 average this past month, the third time is as many months where they've led the IL in batting (.268 in April, .272 in May). That .289 clip was also tied for the third-highest average by a Tribe team in a single month since 2005, behind only Aug. 2009 (.292) and May 2015 (.291). Indy's 29 homers this past month was third in the league and marked its highest June HR total since 2011 when they hit 31. The June record breakdown since 2010 is below:

June 2010: 18-11 June 2013: 18-11 June 2016: 17-13

June 2011: 18-11 June 2014: 14-15 June 2017: 17-12 OVERALL JUNE RECORD SINCE 2010: 157-103 (.604)

June 2012: 20-9 June 2015: 17-11 June 2018: 18-10

AVOID THE SWEEP: The Indians are looking to avoid being swept in all four games of their series against Columbus this afternoon. The Clippers have swept four-game sets against Indy just twice since 1988, doing so from July 22-25, 2005 and April 7-10, 2011 -- both at Victory Field. The Tribe haven't been swept in a four-game set altogether since July 21-24, 2014 at Victory Field against Charlotte.

FACING COLUMBUS: Kevin Newman has torched Clippers pitching in 15 games this year, batting .426 (29-for-68) with one homer, seven doubles, eight RBI, 15 runs scored and a 1.039 OPS. Over one-third of his doubles (7 of 19) and 33% of his hits (29 of 89) have come against Columbus.

FRAZIER FINDING IT: Adam Frazier logged his third three-hit game of the year (has 2 with Pittsburgh) and first with Indy since a four-hit performance on June 15, 2016 vs. Pawtucket at Victory Field. It was also his third two-RBI performance and second on the road trip. The 26-year-old has hit safely in six of his last seven games for the Tribe, batting .375 (9-for-24) with two triples, one double, four RBI and two runs scored. His average has elevated from .120 to .245 during the stretch.

WHAT HE'S DONE LATELY: Jordan Luplow has hit safely in 21 of his last 25 overall. He has also driven in at least one run in six straight and seven of his last eight, with six of those occurrences featuring two-RBI performances. He is batting .400 (22-for-55) with three homers, five doubles, 14 RBI, 10 runs scored and 11 walks against just seven strikeouts over his last 16 games. Since May 1, Luplow has batted .315 (63-for-200) with 31 extra-base hits, 39 RBI and 28 runs scored in 55 games. All eight of his home runs with Indy have come on the road.

SIX STRAIGHT WITH A RIBBIE: Luplow has at least one RBI in six straight games, the longest by a Tribe player in 2018 and tied for the longest stretch in his career (also: Aug. 6-11, 2015 with Single-A West Virginia). He has totaled 11 RBI during the stretch. The last Tribesmen to have an RBI in seven straight games were Deibinson Romero (April 18-27) and Willy Garcia (Aug. 1-8) in 2015.

FIRED UP: Kevin Kramer recorded an extra-base hit in 14 of 26 games in June. He also had a team-high 12 multi-hit games this past month, leading him to a .330 average (31-for-94) and 1.056 OPS. He hit safely in 18 June games and is batting .400 (10-for-25) with one triple, four doubles, four RBI, and six runs scored over his last seven games. He has 34 XBH (20 2B, 3 3B, 11 HR) in 73 games this season, second most in the IL. Kramer also ranks among league leaders in total bases (3rd, 136), home runs (T-3rd, 11), runs scored (T-3rd, 44), doubles (T-4th, 20) and slugging percentage (5th, .498). His ejection in the sixth last night was the first by any Tribe player or coach in 2018.

FORGETTABLE DEBUT: Mitch Keller was roughed up in his Triple-A debut last night, allowing 10 hits in 17 at-bats, including five for extra bases. The eight runs he was charged with set a new career high, in addition to the career-high 10 knocks he allowed. His 2.2-inning outing was his shortest of the season and shortest (not in a rehab start) since May 16, 2017 with High-A Bradenton at Daytona (1.0ip, 2h, 2r, 2er, 1hr, 1bb, 1k).

HUNTINGTON FOR TWO: Jerrick Suiter logged his third two-hit game of the season last night; it was also his second multi-hit performance in as many nights. All three of his two-hit games have come in Columbus. Twelve of his 19 hits this season have gone for extra bases (10 doubles, one triple, one home run). He has scored six runs over his last two games after touching home seven total times in his first 27 games.

IT'S GETTING OFFENSIVE: Indy's offense is in the top three of eight categories in the International League. They rank first in average (.277), hits (731), doubles (198), OBP (.340) and slugging (.430). They are second in stolen bases (66), total bases (1133) and sacrifice bunts (25). Indy is on pace for 351 doubles as a team; the Victory Field era record for most doubles by a Tribe team is 299, set in both 1998 and 2000.
