Indianapolis Indians News Release

COLUMBUS, OHIO - Adam Rosales launched a pinch-hit homer with a runner on in the bottom of a five-run eighth inning to lift the Clippers to an 8-3 win over the Indians on Sunday afternoon. Indy dropped all four games of the series to suffer its first four-game sweep since July 2014.

Indianapolis (43-37) led momentarily before Damien Magnifico (L, 1-2) took over after the stretch. The Tribe right-hander walked three in the seventh, the last coming to Brandon Barnes to force home the game-tying run. He remained in the game for the eighth and yielded a leadoff single to Francisco Mejia before Rosales clear the left-field wall for his third homer of the series.

Three more walks all eventually scored after the blast. Bo Schultz inherited the bases-loaded jam but gave up consecutive singles to Eric Haase and Drew Maggi.

Columbus (42-39) secured its 2-0 lead three batters in on doubles by Greg Allen, Yu Chang and Yandy Diaz. Tribe starter Tyler Eppler settled in after the rough beginning, firing six innings and allowing just the two runs on five hits. He walked three and fanned eight.

The long ball brought the Indians back into contention. Eric Wood lined a two-out dinger to left in the fifth to make it 2-1. It was his seventh for Indy in 2018 and 23rd of his Tribe career. Seven of those have come against Columbus, including five at Huntington Park.

Ryan Lavarnway gave Indy the lead in the top of the seventh, hooking a 1-2 pitch from Cole Sulser over the wall. Jordan Luplow, who walked, was along for the ride to put the Indians in front 3-2.

Robert Zarate (W, 3-1) tossed two shutout frames in relief to earn the win.

The Indians continue their nine-game road trip on Monday night in Louisville. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
