July 1, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release
The Columbus Clippers and Indianapolis Indians had themselves a barnburner in game three of their four-game series tonight in downtown Columbus.
The Clippers prevailed in a game that totaled double-digit runs and hits by the end of the third inning thanks to a Yu Chang walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, 10-7
They put up four in the bottom of the first to separate themselves early. Francisco Mejia extended his scalding hot streak with an RBI double, followed by an Eric Haase three-run homer, making it 4-0.
They tacked on three more in the second, with another Mejia RBI double, backed up by a Haase two-run double.
Down 7-0, Indy quietly fought back. The tacked on two runs in the top of the third, courtesy of Adam Frazier on an RBI single, and Jordan Lulpow on an RBI fielder's choice.
Greg Allen got one of those runs back for the Clippers in the home half of the third with his own RBI single, extending the Columbus leas to 8-2.
The Indians rebounded again in the fourth, though. Frazier roped an RBI single, Jeff Beliveau walked one home with the bases loaded, and then Kevin Kramer scored another with an RBI fielder's choice to make it 8-5.
Haase delivered his second homer of the game for the Clippers in the bottom of the fourth, adding back on to the lead at 9-5.
Indianapolis pulled within 9-7 with RBI singles from Kevin Newman and Jason Martin in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.
Ben Taylor pitched clean eighth, but allowed a two-run, game-tying homerun to Jackson Williams in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 9-9.
Yu Chang rolled up to the plate with one out in the bottom of the ninth and proceeded to deposit a homerun over the high wall in right field to win it for Columbus, 10-9. It was his seventh homer of the year, and second of the walk-off variety.
The teams will finish their series tomorrow afternoon at Huntington Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
